Gripping the news last week was the death of Georgian billionaire and Monolopy man look alike, Badri Patarkatsishvili. Following Mr Patarkatsishvili’s passing at his Surrey mansion, headlines harking back to the Cold War filled the papers. Was this another assassination of a Kremlin critic or merely a player burned by the game of life?

Either way it marks an interesting turn we have been seeing recently in UK and Russian relations becoming front page news in the media. While a few years ago the death of anyone from the former Soviet Union may have gone unnoticed, today, with former Soviet business elites investing the GDP of a small country in English football teams, the death of such a wealthy non domicile does not fade into the background in fact it makes headlines.

The Russian romance began nearly two years ago with the death of Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko and since then the story has started to grow.

Conspiracy theories, hypotheses on motive and several different suspects have swept the headlines as the editors of every red top in the country has been romanticizing like a pre-pubescent teen reading an Ian Fleming novel. With the latest passing of Mr Patarkatsishvili, the story was again revived with whispers of murder and the Kremlin and we predict will remain in the media for many years to come.

Much like the game of Monopoly, this story is going to be a long and drawn out process as every throw of the dice brings more opportunity to fulfill the publics hunger for scandal and intrigue. So keep watching the papers as the story evolves and the editors fall further into what will be considered by some to be the playing out of a real life spy novel.

You never know, before too long we may even see the editorial signed, From Russia, With Love.
