The Best A Man Can Get

with 2 comments

I regularly rack my brains for a legitimate excuse NOT to shave for an entire month. I hate shaving. It hurts, it extends the time required in the bathroom each morning and it costs money (note to Gillette: please, please try to find an innovative new razor that still has the nice strip at the top that allegedly moisturises my sensitive skin, and still has three blades for a smooth finish, yet doesn’t cost so much money that I have been known to release my inner pikey, and wait until I’m flying somewhere just so I can buy new blades from duty free).

Anyway, full gratitude to the Australians, who have provided a perfect excuse for shaving abstinence: charidee: Movember.

Prostate cancer, according to Wikipedia, may cause affected men pain, difficulty in urinating, erectile dysfunction and other symptoms. None of those things sounds good. So I am only too happy to give all the money I’ll save by not shaving for a month and much, much more to a charity that funds basic, translational, clinical and psychosocial research into the causes, prevention and treatment of prostate cancer and also the impact of living with the disease.

And I hope anyone reading this, man or woman, will similarly feel compelled to visit http://www.justgiving.com/movember08 and provide a very good cause some much needed £££.

At the very least, check back in regularly to monitor the cultivation of the Infernal taches. Perhaps we’ll try a little tache topiary later in the month.

  1. While not-shaving to raise cancer awareness is a worthy cause, it doesn’t have to be the painful, expensive chore that the first paragraph makes it out to be. My shaves are pleasant and my blades cost me under US $0.20 each! You just need to have the right tools and know the right techniques.

  2. Cheers for that Mantic59. Obviously you are an authority in the shaving arena and we would appreciate some tips from you at the end of the month when we are looking to remove our top lip furniture.

In the interim if you have a few spare coins to donate to our worthy cause, that would be much appreciated.
